In Reciprocity, ideas of give and take highlight programmatic and design values. The way plants take in CO2 and release oxygen is mimicked throughout the design process as a means of giving back to the city, environment, and its residents. As a contestant of the ACSA Urban Habitats competition entitled Timber in the City, Reciprocity responds to the housing economy, the endangerment of nature, and the lack of local art through a mixed-use mid-rise timber structure that promotes the idea of designing in tandem with the environment rather than merely on it.

Housing a community center, marketplace, and affordable housing units, the design is set to benefit the users of the space in a well-rounded manner based around the idea of green roofs. The green roofs and usable outdoor rooms in Reciprocity set the trajectory of the space and accommodate to both the residents and public as plants and foods are grown, sold, and consumed by the local community in an iterative manner. More than anything, the design is set to influence sustainability in a traffic-heavy and grey city like Atlanta by reintroducing a sense of biodiversity in a cyclical system that collects rainwater, generates energy, promotes local artists, and actively gives back to nature.
