luna ossuarium project

Year December 2019

Program Cemetery

Location Lacus Mortis Quadrant, Moon

Studio Brian Ambroziak

In a study of materiality and function, the Luna Ossuarium Project dissects elements, objects, and matter known to our world through a fictional lens to tackle intensive territorial action on the Moon. Using vocabulary as a tool, the lunar realm as a whole is detailed and analyzed mainly according to its existing physical characteristics and fabricated ones that come to light by virtue of metaphorically explored and explained elements with similar qualities.

After the inter workings of the Moon are surveyed and inspected, the Lacus Mortis Quadrant is selected to house a handful of these characteristics to develop a cemetery on the Moon. The cards that have been pulled from the Lunar Trope Index are specific to the overall function of the site and are meant to define the behavior of the program and the surrounding components including the resulting form which is designed to mimic said lunar features and simultaneeously fulfill the traditional role of a cemetery.
