ectopic native the inversion city

The Inversion City built in this project is a response to the Ectopic Native ideology that arose with the intensification of gentrification matters in Los Angeles, California. Based on an essay written by Kayla Veloz, an Echo Park resident, the city begins its construction process surrounding the effects of gentrification and neglect that she experiences within her community. With Echo Park being a test bed for The Inversion City, it is imagined to be parasitically attached to the existing space and rise above it whilst ensuring cohabitation without hindering the existing city's current functionalities.

In attempts to create a cohesive space between the two, defunct architecture is used as an ecological manner to maintain a system between both worlds. In Los Angeles, the hefty numbers of abandoned oil wells would act as Geothermal oil wells that would be embedded into the base of the towering city to facilitate the economy; therefore, forming a relationship with the city below where a mutually exclusive and beneficial offer is proposed. This ideology serves to tackle moments of displacement by forming instances of inclusionary zoning to reattach lost elements into the city fabric.
